SUPAUL


Supaul is a town and a municipality that is headquarters of Supaul district in the Indianstate of Bihar. Not far from this place is the Indian border connecting Nepal. The Supaul Town is the administrative headquarters of this district.
River Kosi flows through Supaul. After the construction of Kosi Dam the flood situation has improved in Supaul. This year though (2008) the river Kosi changed its course and took the route it used to take 200 years ago. As a result major parts of Supaul districts were flooded. These were the worst floods since 1954

Supaul has a rich history. The District of Supaul had been a part of Mithilanchal since the Vedic period. The area has been referred to as the fishery area (Matsya Kshetra) in the Hindu mythology. The two oldest democracies namely Angutaran and Apadnigam are known for their existence in the Buddhist era, which comprises today’s area of district Supaul.
The river Kosi flows through the district which is consider as the sorrow of not only this area, but whole of the state of Bihar, tilyuga chhaimra, kali, tilawe, bhenga, mirchaiya, sursar are the tributaries to it . The type of soil is sandy. Some where it is acetic and somewhere it is basic in nature. Supaul district in Bihar covers an area of 2,420 km2. Supaul district is part of the Koshi division. Supaul town is the administrative headquarter of the district. The district is bounded by Nepal in the north, Saharsa in the south, by Araria district in the east and on the west by Madhubani district. The East-West corridor(National Highway-57) is passing in Supaul, Raghopur. There is an ancient school called Williams High School which is 112 years old. There is two famous school called Bivha International School & Jawahar Navodaya vidyalaya, which produce a scores of talented students with a high class achievement not nationally but internationally.Jawahar navodaya Vidyalaya is affiliated with CBSE, While Bivha International School is affiliated with IB &IGCSE. There is a public club which is more than 100 yrs old. Supaul is well connected to capital of state and country with rail and roads. Politically Supaul stands ahead with comparison to other district and it is a lok sabha constituency which produced eminent leaders. It is home district of internationally renowned designer Govind Kumar Singh .[2]

As of 2011 India census,[3] Supaul had population of 2,228,397 of which male and female were 1,157,815 and 1,070,582 respectively. The initial provisional data suggest a density of 919 in 2011 compared to 714 of 2001. Total area under Supaul district is of about 2,425 km2. With regards to Sex Ratio in Supaul, it stood at 925 per 1000 male compared to 2001 census figure of 920. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate.

Almost everyone knows Hindi. People are soft spoken, loving and helping. Supaul is a peaceful and culturally strong place in Bihar.

This part of bihar is known for delicious food. Its mainly known for khaja of pipra bazar, litti chokha, roti bhujiya, chawal daal chokha, banarsi bhuja and many more.
